Thayer Central Math Students Compete in Math Contest

Twelve Thayer Central math students traveled to Peru State College on Friday, February 22, 2008 to compete in the 15th Annual Greater Southeast Nebraska math Challenge. In the Geometry division, Jeffrey Bantam won the 1st place medal for the individual test. Michaela Marsh and Dylan Long joined Jeffrey to win the 1st place team plaque. They also won the Geometry division of the quiz bowl. In the Algebra II division, Kesston Fink won the 2nd place medal for the individual test. Cody Pachta and Joseph Dougherty teamed up with Kesston to tie for 1st place for the team, but lost the tiebreaker, so brought home 2nd place. In the Calculus division, Caleb Famgmeier won the 3rd place medal for the individual test. He was joined by Jessica Kroll and Michael O’Neal to win the 1st place team plaque. Kyle Evans, Nicole Petersen and Ethan Moeller competed in the Pre-calculus division. Thirteen schools were represented at the contest. Thayer Central was in Division II with Palmyra, Nebraska City Lourdes, Humboldt-Table Rock-Steiner and Weeping Water. This is the 6th year that Thayer Central has competed.
