Eating Fractions a Fun Way to Learn

Students in first grade had a "yummy" math class and learned about fractions at the same time. With a Hershey Chocolate bar in front of them, the students explored the equal parts of the candy bar. In other words fractions of the candy bar. Students started out with the whole bar which is equal to one. Then they divided into 1/2, 1/4, and 1/12 of the candy bar. Of course at the end of the lesson students were able to eat the fraction. Chocolate is a way to learn about fractions.
