Hot Shooting Dooms Titans
January 19, 2010
Shooting the basketball is a very important part of the game. That fact was very evident last week as the Thayer Central Titans found themselves up against two teams that scorched the nets early and built insurmountable leads. The Titans fell host to Sutton on Friday 59-39 and to visiting Milford on Saturday by a score of 66-30. With the losses, the Titans record stands at 6-4 for the season.
On Friday, the Titans kept it close early in the game, but saw the Mustangs pull away after the midway point of the first half. Offensively, the Titans were led by seniors Will Goldhammer, Kory Klover and Seth Wiedel. Goldhammer led all scorers with 15 points. Klover added 10 and Wiedel added 9. Junior guard Jeffrey Bantam scored 5 points. Senior Sam Wiedel led all Titans with 8 rebounds.
On Saturday, the Eagles made shots early and often as the Titans shots couldn't find their mark. Leading the Titans in scoring for the game was Kory Klover. Klover scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Senior Sam Wiedel added four rebounds.
"We were shot right out of both games" remarked Titans coach Mike Bantam. "Both teams executed well and simply hit their shots early in both contests and we couldn't counter"."Our shooting was not as it should have been, but we did get some good looks in both games that just didn't fall". "We need to stay the course and keep working".
After a game with Cross County on Tuesday, the Titans will face the Superior Wildcats on Thursday in a make up game, and Sandy Creek on Saturday. Both games will tip at approximately 7:45 pm after the girls varsity contests.
