February 10, 2010
The Thayer Central Titans had no answers for the two post players from David City last Tuesday night as they combined for 45 points to help the visiting Scouts defeat the Titans 69-50 in the Southern Nebraska Conference Tournament. The Scouts opened up a 33-21 halftime lead and held off a second half rally for the win. With the loss, the Titans record stands at 8-7 on the year.
Leading the Titans on offense were seniors Will Goldhammer, Seth Wiedel and Kory Klover. Goldhammer led all Titans with 21 points, while Wiedel added 16 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists, and Klover registered 10 points and 3 rebounds. Senior Braden Burkey added 3 steals and a team high 5 assists.
"We didn't start well and couldn't maintain any consistency" added Titans coach Mike Bantam. "Their two bigs played extremely well". "We worked hard against them, but they were able to hit shots over the top of us". "There wasn't much we could do about that".
The Titans will next see action on Tuesday against Wilber in a make up game before traveling to Wymore to take on the Raiders on Friday. Game time for the boys only evening will be right after the junior varsity game that will begin at 6:15 pm.
