Juniors Complete NeSA Writing Assessment 2010

February 10, 2010

 NeSA 2010 Writing Assessment - 11th Grade

All eleventh-grade students of TCHS gathered among three high school classrooms Monday and Tuesday, February 8-9, to formulate and complete persuasive essays for the Nebraska State Writing Assessment for 2010.

In addition, TCCS fourth-grade students wrote narrative essays, while TCMS eighth-grade students wrote descriptive essays this week, during the required days designated by state officials under the auspices of the Nebraska State Department of Education.

Later this spring, in Omaha, each student essay will be measured anonymously, by two separate readers, against a rubric based on the Six Traits of Effective Writing.  The Traits, or standards, include  ideas, organization, word choice, sentence fluency, authentic voice, and editing conventions.  The highest possible combined score for each essay will be eight (8) points.  A passing score usually requires five points or more.  In past years, TCCS students have passed this test at close to 100 percent school wide.

Toward the end of the school year, our administrators will receive our results, and our overall school achievement on this writing test will appear statewide in newspapers, compared to achievements by other districts across the state.
