Thayer Central Students Compete in Math Contest

Twelve Thayer Central students participated in the 17th Annual Greater Southeast Nebraska Math Challenge held at Peru State College on February 26.  This will be the seventh year that Thayer Central has participated.    
Each school is allowed to enter a team of three students for each of four subjects.  They compete individually in their subjects and as a team on another test.  The scores from the two tests determine the school winners. They also compete in a quiz bowl which is scored separately from the tests.
Participants this year include:  Calculus – Nick Burkhardt, Kelsey Loontjer and Courtney Yoachim, Pre-Calculus – Jeffrey Bantam, Kesston Fink and Cody Pactha, Algebra II – Sara Bulin, Ethan Friesen and Andrew Wilshusen and Geometry – Brian Loontjer, Ashley Petersen and Tarryn Tietjen.
Individual Honors went to Courtney Yoachim - 1st in Calculus, Kesston Fink – 2nd in Pre-Calculus, and Brian Loontjer – 2nd in Geometry.  Team honors went to the Pre - Calculus team who placed 1st, the Calculus team who placed 2nd and Geometry team who also placed 2nd.  The students were sponsored by Thayer Central math instructor, Mrs. Lukert.
