Woodmen of America Speech Contest

On April 28th, 2010, area students competed in a district speech contest sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America, a fraternal financial service organization.
Prior to this contest, the students had already won first, second or third place in their local-level contests. They shared their presentations on this year`s topic, If I were a President. The first place division 1 winner Ashley Harms and Division 2 winner Rachel Heitmann, both of Thayer Central School, won a 50.00 dollars cash award and a trophy. Second place Division 1 winner Cheyanna Tietjen of Thayer Central, Division 2 winner Ty Brakage of Meridian Schools, and third place Division 1 winner John Alfs of Shickley Schools and Brandon Jackson of Meridian also recieved trophies.
Modern Woodmen`s Speech Contest is one the May free Youth Educational Programs. Modern Woodman is offered to schools nationwide. More than 100,000 students compete in the contest each year.
The top two from each division will now compete in the state competition to be in Omaha, NE, in late May.
