Lady Titan Basketball Finds Time to Give Back

Lady Titan Basketball Finds Time to Give Back

The Thayer Central Lady Titans basketball team traveled to Lincoln to compete in the Nebraska Wesleyan Holiday tournament on December 28-30th.  While in Lincoln for 3 days the team was able to visit and volunteer at the Matt Talbot Kitchen and Outreach Facility.  The team helped stuff envelopes, move and sort clothing and other donated items, organize the food pantry, pass out cookies and assorted toiletries and help clean up the dining room after dinner.

The team learned how much more the Matt Talbot Kitchen and Outreach Program offers beyond just delicious hot meals.  Established in 1995 it has grown and moved locations over the years to offer the following opportunities:

  • Classes for adults to improve their reading and writing skills

  • Nutrition consultations and cooking classes

  • Food Pantry

  • Medical Clinics

  • Immunizations

  • Identification Programs

  • Showers and Laundry Services

  • Haircuts

  • Transitional Housing

  • For a list of other offerings and information visit www.mtko.org

As a parent, teacher and coach at Thayer Central it made me extremely proud to be part of a team of young ladies that are selfless, caring and willing to give freely of their time to help make a difference in the lives of those that aren't as fortunate.  The team would like to give special thanks to Holly Westengard who helped make this opportunity possible and to Victoria Young the Coordinator of Volunteers for the Matt Talbot Kitchen for allowing us to assist and share our time.  As a team we look forward to having this opportunity again next year.
