Yarns of Learning
This year some of the 4th graders learned how to crochet during intervention and enrichment time. They learned the basics from Mrs. Hulse and then a local grandma, Kathy Fangmeier, came in and taught them even more skills twice a week. Some have gone on to even make baby blankets, baby flip-flops, and scarves. The kids stated that it is fun and relaxing. They like that they can make things and then see what the end result will be. Learning all the new stitches with Mrs. Fangmeier was fun also. So the 4th grade ‘crocheters’ took it a step further and became teachers themselves. They have gone into the 3rd grade rooms to teach new learners about this old skill. Making things with our hands encompasses our creativity and the right side of our brains that help balance out our world these days.
