TC Elementary “TOTALLY” Experiences the Eclipse

Thayer Central Elementary “TOTALLY” Experiences the Eclipse

Thayer Central Elementary students and staff were able to “TOTALLY” experience the once in a lifetime solar eclipse on Monday, August 21st. Students took part in many pre-eclipse activities coordinated by Mr. Clint Havel, upper level science teacher at the school. First and foremost, students were informed on the importance of the safety glasses and how to use them. Additionally, all students watched informational videos from NSA and other educational sites and then did some hands on activities so some understanding of this historic event could set the tone for the actual event. Students ate sack lunches and made eclipse sugar cookies prior to heading out to the football field where they joined the high school and junior high students. Although the clouds caused some viewing issues, just when totality hit, the clouds parted and our students were able to view this amazing event.
