The Thayer Central 5th grade classes recently held a flag ceremony in front of the school where they took down last year’s American flag and raised the new flag that will fly throughout the 2021-2022 school year. The class talked about the importance of the flag, how to raise and lower it, how to fold it, and what to do with a flag that needs to be retired. Finally, the class took the retired flag to their classroom where they learned how to prepare it for the burning ceremony that will be held later in the school year. Students cut each flag part while they learned what each represented in the cutting.
