On Saturday, January 22nd, Thayer Central hosted their annual speech invite, with this year’s edition bringing together 24 schools, ranging in participation from class B to D2 schools.
Thayer Central’s Titan Talkers held up well against the tough competition. On the Varsity level, Junior Halle Pulliam led the way with a 4th place finish in Humorous Prose and 9th Place in Entertainment. Juniors Jordan Mariska and Krista Hartley tied for 5th in Extemporaneous Speaking. Hartley also placed 7th in Poetry. Seniors Taylor Broers and AnnaMae Howe also placed 5th in Duet Acting. Senior Jasa Wiedel earned 7th in Persuasive Speaking. Senior Megan Lukert earned two medals on the day: 7th in Informative and 10th in Persuasive. And Junior Beth Poisel won 8th in Entertainment.
In the Novice division, Junior Laiken Mumm won 3rd place in Poetry. Senior Cayden Huber earned 4th in Extemporaneous and Sophomore Ella Murray came in 4th in Entertainment.
This year’s meet marked a return to an in-person meet after going virtual for the competition last year. In total, there were over 250 entries across nine NSAA events and two divisions: Varsity and Novice.
The Thayer Central Speech Team will take a week off before heading to Aurora on February 5th.
