volunteer

During the first semester Thayer Central students turned in 412.5 volunteer hours.  Students recorded charity hours by helping at the Majestic Theatre, performing yardwork, helping ready for Belvidere's community celebration,  doing jobs for neighbors and serving at church.  One junior helped his neighbor move into her new home and said " (he) was so helpful and courteous.  I am 79 and disabled so he was a godsend!!"

Serving community hours was implemented as part of TC's school improvement goal this year.  Students in grades 10, 11 and 12 are asked to volunteer at least 5 hours within the community each semester.  The sophomore class turned in 164.75 hours,   juniors served 132.5 hours and seniors claimed 115.25 hours.

Junior high students also performed civic duty by helping beautify school grounds, assisting with recycling and serving at the Big Give Thayer County event.
